Linda has been performing for over 30 years at concerts, folk
festivals, clubs, schools, and universities. She presents a wide
repertoire of songs, specializing in her own interpretations of
inter-cultural musical traditions.
A Chicago singer and cultural historian, Linda's songbag combines the
stories and songs of many cultures, languages, and lives-weaving them
into a rich pattern.
Among her researched and collected songs are those
that represent the lives of our children, our selves, our elders, and
the lives and contributions of women and workers throughout history.
Her musical style encompasses Blues, progressive-folk, traditional,
country, Nueva Cancion, jazz, and women's music, with songs in Spanish,
Portuguese, Urdu, Hindi, Arabic, Hebrew, Yiddish, and Ladino-Espanol.
She released her full-length tape album, "Home Is Where I'll Be." She
is also a Special Education, Spanish and U.S. History teacher and is
involved in Reading instruction.
Programs can be tailored to meet the interests of the audience. She
performs, produces concerts, emcees, lectures, and gives keynote
speeches and workshops for any group from grammar school children to
community, professional, and academic organizations. Linda performs
solo, but performances with other musicians are available.
In 2005, friends and neighbors Lin and Dennis began performing together. Their love for folk, Blues, folk-rock, jazz, and World music is combined with Dennis's rich acoustic and electric guitar leads, bass guitar and percussion , a great compliment to Lin's rhythm guitar. His creative playing adds zest and a unique approach to traditional as well as contemporary and original songs. Together they perform in clubs, restaurants, community events and festivals, and share music with children and their families.
Their Brave Songs/Cantos Bravos CD will be released in 2007-2008. This recording honors folks of all ages who have shown true bravery through their work, struggles and sacrifices for human rights and social justice. See the Calendar for upcoming performances. For more information on Brave Songs and other recordings see Lin's Music.

"Songs as Stories": Music and LiteracyThe Use of Music with Reading and Writing and across the Curriculum Linda Boyle has been an educator for almost thirty years, teaching primarily in secondary schools but also grades 4 and 6-8. She has been in Special Education for 18 years, served as a director of an alternative high school, and has taught history, multicultural studies and Spanish. Music has always been a part of her instruction, and she is now involved with Reading instruction as well as research involving music and literacy. In her presentations to educators she promotes the use of music across the curriculum, in differentiated instruction and Special needs students, and to increase fluency, attitude and motivation of young adults. She believes music is another way for young people to create their own voice and become more engaged in development language, critical thinking and social and emotional skills. "Spin Me A Web of Stories": Linda with LEP students at Chicago's Sullivan High School Students from Ms. Eavon Ngo-Solis' Class created personal stories with the theme: "Spin Me A Web of Stories" and "What We Share." Linda created choruses from the two themes of Ms. Ngo-Solis. Students sang the chorus in between student narratives. The recording was edited and mixed in the studio (by Dennis Huston) and each student received a CD. A copy of the CD is available upon request. |
